I thought it would be worth mentioning Bailey's New child care center she now goes to... she's been on Nike campus since last September, however, the NEW C. Vivian Stringer Center (named after legendary women's college basketball coach) opened in June and now Bailey is at the new center. This is a state of the art child's care center; largest on the West coast and in this country - over 35k square feet, 26 class rooms and 300 kid's (Bailey has 8 other kid's in her class room with 4 teachers).
What is great about this new center is that it was built with innovation using green practices and sustainability! I know you are all thinking that is soooo Amy and Dave! And why I thought it was so important to add to Bailey's blog.
The Center is covered with Solar Panels on the roof, state-of-the-art heating and air conditioning, all recycled blue jeans was used for insulation, all play areas have Nike grind surfaces (old shoes ground up), Storm water chain drains (educational for kid's), high ceilings for natural sun light, all faucets are powered by natural light (solar), and has priority parking for low-emission vehicles (which is great for our 'bio-diesel' '82 Mercedes).
The center should earn a LEED platinum award for sustainability! Now, unfortunately we Nike employees do not receive a discount for our child care services - but we are very excited to be a part of this new innovative building.
